[Video] Macklemore & Ryan Lewis- “Same Love”

Today is National Coming Out Day. To quote the folks over at HRC (Human Rights Campaign.org), “every year on National Coming Out Day, we celebrate coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or as an ally.” I am here as an ally, because I believe in the fact that, love knows no gender, no sexual orientation, no creed or religion. Love is, as the definition states, “a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.” It’s, in the simplest form, the same love.

I hope that, by now, a lot of you would have heard of Seattle, Washington indie hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and their beautiful song “Same Love.”  If not, than I hope that this post changes that. Because, this song, and the message behind it is beautiful. The third verse, to me, sums it up.

We press play
Don’t press pause
Progress, march on!
With a veil over our eyes
We turn our back on the cause
‘Till the day
That my uncles can be united by law
Kids are walkin’ around the hallway
Plagued by pain in their heart
A world so hateful
Some would rather die
Than be who they are
And a certificate on paper
Isn’t gonna solve it all
But it’s a damn good place to start
No law’s gonna change us
We have to change us
Whatever god you believe in
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear
Underneath it’s all the same love
About time that we raised up

Remember, it’s all the same love. Check out the song, and the beautifully shot video here. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ solid debut album The Heist is out now. It’s worth checking out.
