[Stream] The Pains of Being Pure at Heart -“Belong”

Brooklyn dream-popsters, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, are set to release Belong, the highly anticipated follow-up to their ’09 critically lauded self-titled debut album on 3/29 via Slumberland.

And while we’re still a month away from its actual release, the folks over at Slumberland, released a taste of  what’s to come in the form of the album’s title track.  Which I just finished listening to for the first time about a minute ago. My initial reaction to it is rather lukewarm: I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either.

Perhaps the more telling aspect of the song and its overall sound comes at the thirteen second mark with an enormous distorted guitar riff that, brings to mind the Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness era Smashing Pumpkins.  Which, makes perfect sense when you take a quick glance at Belong‘s producer and mixer; Flood and Alan Moulder—both of whom were involved in the production of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

Check it out below, and let me know what you think.
