Coachella 2013 Lineup

Coachella 2013

Here it is. The 2013 Coachella line-up!

I have to admit, after months of rumors and speculation, I’m glad that it’s finally out. It does, however, suck that the headliners that were rumored—the Rolling Stones, Daft Punk, David Bowie or Bjork—weren’t on the poster. Instead this years headliners consist of Blur and the Stone Roses sharing Friday night, Phoenix closing out Saturday, and the, in my opinion, lack-luster Sunday headliner the Red Hot Chili Peppers doing the honors night three. Out of the three nights, I’m curious how Friday night, headliner-wise, is going to play out. It’s an interesting choice to have two late 80’s/early 90’s Brit-Pop bands headlining. Especially given the fact that neither one of them has put out an album worth of new material in quite awhile; Blur in ten years, and the Stone Roses, well, since the mid-nineties before they called it quits. Because of this, and this hilarious (yet sad) Who are the Stone Roses? Tumblr, I get the sense that a lot of people may be spending their night elsewhere in the Polo grounds.

Another thing that I noticed about the line-up, especially after taking my time to go through it, is how stacked the undercard is this year. In fact, I sent my friend Scott a text after doing so that said, “2013: The year the undercard is better than the headliners.” That isn’t to say that I’m not excited about seeing Blur and the Stone Roses for the first time, or seeing Phoenix again. I am. It’s just that the undercard seems better in comparison. Friday has the return of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and Modest Mouse. It also has: Lou Reed, Grinderman, How to Destroy Angels, Passion Pit, Tegan & Sara, Local Natives, Japandroids, Divine Fits, Stars, Johnny Marr (!!), Four Tet, and Sparks.  Saturday gets even better. It has the reunion of the Postal Service, for one. Add to it, the xx, Sigur Rós, New Order, Grizzly Bear, Moby, Simian Mobile Disco, Spiritualized, Café Tacuba, Bat for Lashes, Richie Hawtin, and Major Lazer.  Rounding out Sunday is, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Vampire Weekend, Wu-Tang Clan, Tame Impala, Dead Can Dance, Dinosaur Jr., Roni Size, James Blake, Tanlines, Jessie Ware, and so much more.  These are just a few of the highlights of the undercard.

It’s going to be fun. Now all that there’s left to do is wait. 77 days to be exact, until Coachella is upon us again. Until then, if you’re going or are thinking about it, and want a band/dj primer, then go here and check out—and subscribe to—my playlist for this year’s Coachella.

FYI, for those of you without tickets, the remaining allotment of wristbands goes on-sale this Tuesday 1/29 at 10am PT. It’s highly recommended that you set up an account with the Frontgate ticket site beforehand. This will help you avoid the hassle of having to waste time entering this info during your time-limit. Oh, and get comfortable before the on sale starts, because it takes awhile to get through.
